Panorama of the Week: Double Vision — Our Valentine’s Day Message to You
Filed Under: Panorama by Daniel Noll and Audrey ScottWith Valentine’s Day upon us we hoped to create a special panorama to celebrate the day. We figured why not make fools of ourselves in the process at one of Kuala Lumpur’s biggest tourist sights, the Petronas Towers.
How did we do this?
Easy. We found a couple of lurkers who looked roughly like us, gave them masks, had a local guy stitch up some clothes exactly like ours, and gave our camera to a willing and capable onlooker to shoot us all. And voila!
So there you have it. No Photoshopping involved. Pure photographic prowess at its best.

Aww! It took me a second to figure out what was going on (“wait a minute…. didn’t I already see him in the picture?!”). But then I read the text and realized how clever y’all were to find doppelgangers.

Oh I LOVE IT! When you explained it to me this morning, I only imagined it being panoramic but now I fully understand the power of the 8mm! Great Job and I saw your bags by the pool.. hehe.

You all are just way too cute. Glad to see big smiles as you all enjoy KL.
Do you find that they celebrate the day there? I was surprised to see some hearts on a few shops and casinos here in Lima so curious if there is any mention in Asia. I am guessing not, but love to be surprised.

What a great job! I have different friends bloggers from KL but I could not imagin they live in such a beautiful place! What program you used to create this panoramic photo? I would like to learn it too.

@Shannon: A little tricky in concept. Once we figured out how to properly shoot it, we were all good.
@Akila: Yeah, it was pretty scary
@Christy: I love the word doppelganger. But if I honestly saw another near-exact version of me walking around, I would be profoundly troubled.
@David: Yeah, it’s pretty hard to explain. When we say “panorama”, most people think flat panorama. But this is spherical. A whole different experience and perspective, isn’t it?
@Warren: Cute? Thank you. I was thinking more like “cheesy.”
As for Valentine’s Day being celebrated in Malaysia, good question.
I think it’s one of those holidays that’s mainly a way to promote the sales of flowers, cards, chocolate, dinner, and possibly hotel rooms. In other words, very American
If you entered Krispy Kreme donuts in KL, you would have noticed heart-shaped donuts. But my sources tell me that heart-shaped donuts might be an everyday item.
Malaysians were still celebrating Chinese New Year (which technically passed over a week earlier). And the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday was coming the next day. I don’t think there was room for another holiday.

@Kathy: Glad you liked it. We certainly had fun making it. We shot a series of ultra-wide angle photos (alternating who was taking the shot) and stitched the photos together into a single spherical panorama. Simple
