Greasing Up

These women dug into this Active Fitness Cream jar to grease up the loaves of bread at the Samarkand train station. Made us think twice about buying shiny bread on the street.

sheroz2005 NO! NO! NO! You are totally wrong! This is probably some jar they use to keep oil. They do put vegetable oil to make the bread look shiny, but not everyone does it. I am from Samarkand if you ask me how I know Posted: October 27 2007

uncorneredmarket We figured that the container had some type of oil or butter, but it was still funny to see this jar used on bread! We also saw the same technique - oiling bread - in Kyrgyzstan as well. Posted: October 28 2007
