Monks of a Different Stripe
Thanks to the comments below, we learned that these are not Buddhist monks, but are Ngakpas. Read the comments to learn more about them!
They wear bright red robes and let their hair grow long and tie it up in braids top of their heads. Taken in Xiahe, China.

Not monks at all. They are called Ngakpa. There is a difference in the vows they hold from those that monks hold. For instance, these young men are not required to be celibate.

Ngagpas,they are non-monastic practictioners of many disciplines and arts.Their tradition is passed through family lineages,they traditionally live in villages,but also they congregate in Bonpos,the Ngagpa equivalent of a monastery.. .although they can marry.have childen and work anywhere,they are required to devote significant time to retreat and practice and enacting rituals when requested ....well,cool pic anyway.
