Dresden's main Christmas market, the Striezelmarkt, is celebrating its 572nd birthday this year, making it the oldest Christmas market in Germany ( since 1434). The market takes its name from streizel, Dresden's traditional Christmas bread, which is now known by its modern equivalent, stollen.
