Courtyard of the Cathedral - Sevilla

Many sites in Andalusia offer a fascinating confluence and co-existence of Christian and Muslim architectural elements. For example, Seville's Cathedral was built in the 15th and 16th centuries over the site of what was originally the city’s mosque, and consumed columns and materials from the original structure. The original minaret was also transformed into a bell tower. The courtyard of orange trees dates back to the original mosque, when worshippers bathed their hands and feet in the fountain prior to daily prayers.© www.uncorneredmarket.com Courtyard of the Cathedral - Sevilla
