Long tail boats, white sand, clear water and limestone cliffs draw a near-perfect image that is West Railay Beach.

Beautiful, my last view of this lovely beach was in early December 2004, a huge thunderstorm blew in and what was a crowded beach, was suddenly evacuated by long tail boats taking people back to Ao Nang. It was amazing and we arrived back at Ao Nang still in our bikinis soaked to the skin.
Sadly a couple of weeks after this, the Tsunami hit this beach along with many others along this part of the coast.

That must have been a wild ride back to Ao Nang during a storm! It was pretty rocky even in good weather! We visited at the end of the tourist season (mid-April), so the beach was pretty deserted. Beautiful!
We were in Thailand during the Tsunami in 2004, but luckily we had just arrived in Bangkok and had not yet started traveling south. It's amazing how so many parts of this area have bounced back...although I think some of developers have still built dangerously close to the shore in some areas.
