Trek Like a Supermodel
Unbeknownst to us (until the very end), we trekked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal with Australian supermodel Gemma Ward. Trekking is a great equalizer - everyone shares the same conditions, from outhouses to AMS (acute mountain sickness). Here she is at dawn hiking up to Thorong La pass (5,416 meters). © www.uncorneredmarket.com
Making a Connection

Mt. Everest Perhaps?
This peak stood tall above the clouds shortly after take off from Kathmandu, Nepal on our way towards Lhasa, Tibet. None of the flight attendants could tell us which mountain it was, but it seems likely that it was Mt. Everest. Read more about our layover in Lhasa, Tibet.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

Manpower
Almost all food found on the western side of the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal (with the exception of locally grown wheat, rice and vegetables) comes up the trail on the backs of mules and men. Human porters, like this man, carry up to 50 kilos of food up steep inclines and rocky terrain.Notice the footwear: flip-flops. Read more about our Annapurna Circuit trek. © www.uncorneredmarket.com
Gompa (Buddhist Temple) at Upper Pisang
The caretaker of the Tibetan Buddhist gompa (temple) in Upper Pisang lets us in for a look around in the late afternoon. The gompa's interior is beautifully painted with tantric Buddhist paintings. This gompa becomes even more impressive when we learned that it was a work of community cooperation, built with the labor (54 days per person) and contributions of the village. The talented painter was also local. Read more about our Annapurna Circuit trek. © www.uncorneredmarket.com
Blowing in the Wind
Prayer flags take on the harsh winds of the upper route leading from Upper Pisang to Manang on the western side of the Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal. Marpha Apple Barndy (or Brandy, if you like)
To take the chill away, we shared a bottle of Marpha Apple Barndy in Muktinath. It took the chill away, but also anaesthetized our taste buds along the way. The real brandy from Marpha tasted much better and served as a perfect accompaniment to with fried spicy dried yak meat. Taken on the Annapurna Circuit trek in Nepal. Yaks on the Move!
Yaks bound over the hilltop on the way from Letdar to Thorong Phedi. For big animals, they were surprisingly light on their feet.A bit disconcerting to be facing the stampede.
