We were very fortunate with our weather and were able to eat many meals outside, including our last dinner together.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

Sheep, a defining characteristic of the Bearnaise landscape, were often pear-shaped and in need of a good wool-washing.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

There was a local festival in the southwestern French village of Burosse-Mendousse with traditional music and dancing from the region. There is a push to rediscover and reconnect with the Occitain language and local traditions.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
This photo was taken at a jewelery stand at the May 1st festivals in the village of Burosse-Mendousse. The beads in the middle come from Afghanistan, but the saleswoman clarified that she had bought them in Rome. Not quite as adventurous a story as if she had actually been to Afghanistan, but an interesting journey for the bead, for sure.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
History has it that during WWII, Nazi soldiers wanted to blow this place up because they believed it to be a safe house for the resistance. Fortunately, for us today, they had a look only to find that it was empty. © www.uncorneredmarket.com
Our group descended upon the Mairie one morning to meet the mayor of Mouhous, the second smallest village in France with only 32 inhabitants. The mayor's working hours are Wednesday from 9-12. © www.uncorneredmarket.com

The area around Pau seemed to be the perfect climate for roses. This rose was found in the graveyard of Taron, a small village near where we stayed.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
The dazzling Saturnia Pyri moth. We were mesmerized by it. So, apparently, was the fly.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

These ladies came out of the market and asked us what journal/newspaper we worked for since we were taking so many photos inside. They were flattered when we asked to take theirs.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

This woman had artistically placed a bunch of roses by an antique scale. We were admiring the composition when she approached us for some friendly conversation.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
A woman at the market informed us that this man was one of the best cheese producers around. Unfortunately, his infamously odorous pyramide cheese was sold out by the time we arrived, so we secured a little goat cheese buchette instead.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
