Portico of San Luca - Bologna
Porticos (or arcades) play a prominent role in Bologna's architecture. This arcade and its 666 arches stretches 3.5 kilometers from the center of Bologna to the top of the mountain to the Basilica of San Luca. The porticos were built in the middle ages when there was an influx of university students and housing was needed. The porticos extended the width of the buildings, and the students' rooms were built on top.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
Shadows - Piazza Maggiore, Bologna
Bologna's main square is alive on an early autumn Sunday evening. Old men gather together on their bicycles to catch up (stealing a few moments away from their wives) and kids run around with balloon animals as a live Romanian band plays Transylvanian tunes.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

Church Reliefs - Bologna
While Audrey was photographing something else, a local older man advised us to go 50 meters down the street to find something truly beautiful. We came across this little church on a side street. He was right. We couldn't go inside, but the exterior was impressive.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
Aerial View of Piazza Maggiore - Bologna
From atop the Asinelli Tower, we could hear the diffused sounds of Italian piazza life - bands playing, children yelling, and everyone else enjoying it all. The church of San Luca is on the top of the hill in the distance. © www.uncorneredmarket.com

Road of the Malcontents - Bologna
Our next stop, a wine bar, was on this street...an ominous sign? Do we stay or do we go? We stayed, and enjoyed some tasty proscuitto and local red wines. We took note that the locals were drinking prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) instead. We later learned that prosecco goes very well with smoked meats.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

Wine from the Tap - Bologna, Italy
Definitely going to get one of these installed in our dream home. This wine bar on the Piazza San Frescesco offered a fine selection of house wines for 2 Euros per glass. We later noticed that the wine came from spigots. Ingenious and practical.© www.uncorneredmarket.com
