This photo was taken at a jewelery stand at the May 1st festivals in the village of Burosse-Mendousse. The beads in the middle come from Afghanistan, but the saleswoman clarified that she had bought them in Rome. Not quite as adventurous a story as if she had actually been to Afghanistan, but an interesting journey for the bead, for sure.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

Known as porticos, these arcades play a prominent role in Bologna's architecture. This arcade led up to our B&B, and if you followed it for 2.5 miles (666 arches), it led to the San Luca church overlooking the city. The porticos were built in the middle ages when there was an influx of students for the University and housing was needed. The porticos extended the width of the buildings, and the students' rooms were built on top. © www.uncorneredmarket.com

This bench was at the entrance to the chateau in Moravsky Krumlov that houses Mucha's Slavic Epoch paintings. The Slavic Epoch is a series of large paintings that illustrate important events in the history of the Slavic people. The English language guide is really informative - most of these events were left out of our history classes...© www.uncorneredmarket.com
