We spent a few days in the village of Kisiskhevi in Georgia's wine region of Kakheti. We more than filled our five days there by hiking to caves, and visiting the Telavi main market, nearby churches and monasteries and the winery of Tsinandali.
We thank Rob for letting us stay at his place in Kisiskhevi and Lali for feeding us very well and teaching us how to make khingkale.

Shared Taxi to Kakheti
We caught a taxi from the Isani metro station in Tbilisi to Kisiskhevi in Kaheti and shared it with this Kurdish family from Telavi. When we stopped to get gas, everyone was told to exit the car (for our safety!!) and this family pulled out their camera to take photos of us, the curious Americans. We did the same.Read more about our visit to Kakheti and adventures with Misha and Shota.

Dan Befriends Shota and Misha
During the walk home on our first evening in Khisiskhevi, a group picnicking near a ruined church invited Dan for a few shots of the local crush. This was the start of our adventures with Shota (left) and Misha (right). The next day we joined them to explore caves, eat shashlik and drink some more wine.Read more about our visit to Kakheti and adventures with Misha and Shota.

Feast Fit for a King
Shashlik, tomatoes, puri (flat Georgian bread), herbs and homemade wine are all spread out on the ground for a feast after the climb to the caves. A ruined 8-9th century church sits rubbled in the background. After the hike, Misha handed us each 2 candles to light in the church where an impromptu altar was set up. Graffiti in Telavi
This graffiti was found on one of the walls of the Telavi Hotel that now houses refugees from Abkhazia. Someone obviously has some artistic ambition, but most of what we saw at the hotel was pretty depressing - a crumbling hotel full of refugees who have no where to go and no where to work.
