Fabled Svaneti in Georgia

«« | « BACK page 1 of 2 NEXT » | »»

Nestled in the high Caucasus mountains, Svaneti is considered a magical and mysterious land - even by Georgians. We began our journey in Zugdidi and spent almost a week in Svaneti visiting Mestia and hiking from Mulahi to Ushguli. Hiking allowed us to stay with families in villages and witness a range of lifestyles in this region. We also showed up at the opening of the Svaneti Tourism Center in Mestia and were treated to a feast with long-winded Tamadas (toastmasters) and lots of singing. We were the first tourists - and hopefully not the last - of the center.
