Qingdao landed on our China itinerary because it was the birthplace of Audrey's grandfather and we set out to find the house her great-grandfather built there in the 1930s. We thought finding a house there in the style of pre-war Saxony (Germany) would be easy. Not so.
Thousands of European-styled homes remain in Qingdao from when it was a German colony. Although we didn't find the house in the end, it was still an adventure.
As our two-month Chinese visas came to an end, we transited through Shanghai for a couple of days on our way out of China and back to Thailand.
