Gompa (Buddhist Temple) at Upper Pisang
The caretaker of the Tibetan Buddhist gompa (temple) in Upper Pisang lets us in for a look around in the late afternoon. The gompa's interior is beautifully painted with tantric Buddhist paintings. This gompa becomes even more impressive when we learned that it was a work of community cooperation, built with the labor (54 days per person) and contributions of the village. The talented painter was also local. Read more about our Annapurna Circuit trek. © www.uncorneredmarket.com

Photoshop Lessons for a Monk - Phnom Penh
We think of Buddhist monks as being of another world with their saffron robes and receiving their food as alms, but throughout Laos and Cambodia we witnessed monks trying to educate themselves in languages and technology. Not every monk stays a monk for a lifetime, so its also essential that they prepare for the possibility of leaving the temple. Read more about Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Unfortunately, no one spoke English enough (or we didn't speak Tibetan enough) to explain to us what was going on with the slow movements and the knife. We used our brilliant imaginations to fill in the blanks. Taken at Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, China. Read more about our visit to Xiahe, China.
