We could smell the roasted coffee several stores down. The coffee beans we picked up in Sicily were some of the best we've tasted. The owners would make a blend for us with a handful here of this type, two handfuls of another type, topped off with a handful of dark oily espresso beans.www.uncorneredmarket.com/

What you are seeing here in this not-so-great photo are all mosaics. The inside of the church is covered in intricate mosaics from top to bottom dating from almost 1000 years ago. Monreale was closed up and locked for centuries when it wasn't in use. It is one of the most amazing churches we've ever seen. Highly recommended to take the short trip from Palermo to visit for the day.© www.uncorneredmarket.com

There are still parts of Palermo where the damage from the Allied bombings in WWII still haven't been repaired. It's a reminder that WWII really wasn't that long ago and that Palermo's politicians probably did something with the reconstruction funds along the way. © www.uncorneredmarket.com
