Geared up for Constitution Day

The old parliament in Almaty is decked out for Constitution Day. As one friend joked, it should be called Victory Day, as in the president's victory over the constitution. He changed the constitution so that he can hold office for life and has an almost 90% control of parliament. Read more about our experiences in Almaty and the Tian Shan Mountains.  

Songkran Fun

Songkran, Thailand's New Year, is celebrated with water - and lots of it. In Krabi, pick-up trucks packed with people and barrels of water drive, seeking to cleanse (read: soak) passersby. No one is safe. Warm water is refreshing and welcome, but the iced variety shocks and stings!Our guest house in Krabi had buckets of water and ice out all day so its staff and the farangs (foreigners) could get into the action.www.uncorneredmarket.com/2007/04/andaman-beach-scene/  

Year of the Pig! - HCMC

We were fortunate to be in HCMC right before the Vietnamese (and Chinese) lunar new year, welcoming the turn of the pig this time around. Pigs of all sizes and styles adorned the city, complementing the flowers and other new year decorations. Read more about Saigon's preparation for Tet.
