During Soviet times, Bakuriani was apparently a hip and happening ski town, so much so that it was an Olympic host bidder.More recently, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Bakuriani has fallen into a state of disrepair. It is now being rebuilt, even bigger, even better. Construction sites are everywhere and trucks from Turkey loaded with construction materials rule the roads.
